Speedway Closes Out 2008 Season With Awards Banquet


Jamaica, VA - Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2008 season this past weekend, with a festive awards gala held this past Saturday evening at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA.

The top ten in each of the track’s divisions were recognized with special attention reserved for the 2008 champions. Walker Arthur of Forest, VA was honored as the Victory Lap Late Model Champion and received a check for $10,000 for his efforts. Arthur also received a check for $5000 for winning two of the four Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T events along with an invitation to the Rocket Chassis Race Wise Chassis School and his Championship helmet trophy.

Other Champions honored included Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA in the Budweiser Modified division, Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC picked up the New Generation Racing Sprint Car Championship and Bob Terry of Stafford, VA won the inaugural Limited Stock Car Championship. Daren Bolac was also crowned Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Champion and received an additional $2000 for his efforts.

2008 Awards Banquet and Annual Go-Kart Challenge This Saturday Nov. 8th

Jamaica, VA - The Speedway will close out the 2008 season this Saturday November 8th with this year’s Awards Banquet and Dance. It will once again be held at the beautiful Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA.

Kicking off the festivities will be the annual go-kart race that is held at Motoworld in Virginia Beach. Fans, Competitors and officials gather to compete in a friendly atmosphere that leaves everyone talking during the night’s banquet festivities. The go-kart outing will begin at 12 noon and go till 2pm. We have worked out special pricing of $27.50 for a two-hour wristband once again with Motoworld. Everyone is invited to come and participate.

The day’s event will then shift over to the Virginia Beach Convention Center for the Awards Banquet which kicks off at 6pm with Happy Hour. Buffett dinner will begin at 6:30pm with the Awards portion of the program starting at 8pm and then the partying starts at 9:30pm with dancing!

Deadline for last minute tickets can be purchases is Wednesday Nov. 5th at 3pm. Tickets are only $40 per person and include a buffet dinner, a 2008 Year in Review presentation, dancing and the Awards Ceremony. Special room rates of $64 per night have been established with the newly renovated Double Tree Hotel & Resort, located in the same parking lot as the convention center, and $55 per night at the Quality Inn Oceanfront. All Virginia Motor Speedway drivers, crews and families are encouraged to attend this year’s banquet. There are no limits on the number of tickets a person can order.

Tickets can be purchased by calling Dave Seay at the Speedway’s office between the hours of 10am and 3pm. Tickets can be purchased with a Mastercard or Visa.
